Community Dialogue on Bushfires


  • Mbororo community members living on and around the hills at Bamunkumbit Village

The discussion focused on the environmental and health risks of bushfires. Participants were informed that bushfires can cause a number of problems, including:

  • Destruction of forests and other vegetation
  • Release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere
  • Loss of wildlife habitat
  • Spread of diseases
  • Health problems for people and animals

Participants were also informed that recent bushfires had caused significant damage to the trees planted to restore the community forest around Bamunkumbit Village. The trees were planted as part of a project to improve the livelihoods of the Mbororo community and to protect the environment.

  • The community members agreed that bushfires are a major problem and that they need to be prevented.
  • The community members committed to taking steps to prevent bushfires, such as avoiding open fires and burning garbage properly.
  • The community members also agreed to report any suspicious fires to the authorities.
  • The representatives from SUHUCAM agreed to work with the community to prevent bushfires and to restore the community forest.
