Community Dialogue on Bushfires

Participants:

  • Mbororo community members living on and around the hills at Bamunkumbit Village
  • Representatives from EAFund
  • SUHUCAM National Coordinator and Team
  • Some volunteers and interns

Discussion

The discussion focused on the environmental and health risks of bushfires. Participants were informed that bushfires can cause a number of problems, including:

  • Destruction of forests and other vegetation
  • Release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere
  • Loss of wildlife habitat
  • Spread of diseases
  • Health problems for people and animals

Participants were also informed that recent bushfires had caused significant damage to the trees planted to restore the community forest around Bamunkumbit Village. The trees were planted as part of a project to improve the livelihoods of the Mbororo community and to protect the environment.
