  • EAFund Team
  • Students and staff of GPIS, Yaounde
  • Ape Action Africa
  • Santuary Guide

The objective of the outreach and learning activity was to provide an educational and immersive experience for students from Greener Pastures International School Yaounde at the Mefou Primate Sanctuary. The visit aimed to raise awareness about primate conservation, foster a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving biodiversity, and inspire the students to become future advocates for environmental stewardship.

  • Destruction of forests and other vegetation
  • Release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere
  • Loss of wildlife habitat
  • Spread of diseases
  • Health problems for people and animals

The challenging aspect of the activity was ensuring the safety and well-being of both the students and the primates at the sanctuary. Strict adherence to security guidelines and respect for the animals' natural habitats were essential to maintaining a positive, educational experience.

  • Awareness of Primate Conservation: The students gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by primates in their natural habitats and the importance of conservation efforts to protect these species.
  • Biodiversity Conservation: The visit highlighted the interconnectedness of ecological systems and emphasized the role of biodiversity conservation in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
  • Appreciation of Wildlife: Observing monkeys, chimps, and gorillas in their natural environment fostered an appreciation for the beauty and diversity of wildlife.
  • Environmental Stewardship: The activity encouraged the students to embrace their role as future environmental stewards and inspired them to take action to protect and preserve nature.
